Cape derby headlines DStv Premiership action | SuperSportfootball18 August 2022 12:06| © Backpage TXTShareIbraheem Jabaar and Thabo Nodada © Gallo ImagesThe derby between Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC will headline a full round of DStv Premiership action this coming weekend, 19 to 21 August 2022. City head into the clash at Cape Town Stadium late on Saturday afternoon desperate for a win, having claimed just one point from their opening four matches. A goalless stalemate against Maritzburg United in midweek at least put them on the board and snapped a three-game losing streak, but coach Eric Tinkler will be feeling the heat ahead of taking on an unbeaten Stellies. “We are judged on results and I think I have produced results at the club.
“We were our own worst enemies. We knew they were going to come and defend, maybe break away and snatch a goal. So, we knew we had to be patient. “I said to them [Swallows' players] during the week that you have to be clever to beat the centrebacks at Chippa. “We took the game to them and I can’t fault the players for that. They knew how big this game was. But again, decision-making in and around the penalty area has hurt the club.
‘I think we’re cursed’ — Kerr as Swallows face relegation nightmare againSwallows and Baroka are level on 25 points while Galaxy are two points above them. Maritzburg are on 28 points, but they have two games to play where a single point will be enough for them to avoid the axe. Kerr was left to bemoan the bluntness of his men in front of goal as they were further dragged into the relegation quagmire, being unable to take their chances and beat Chippa.
We're unfortunately going through a purple patch at the moment, but fortunately for us we also like the pressure of the situation, ” said Tinkler. He added, “For me the most important thing [against Maritzburg] was the result more than the performance, but I still saw a good brand of football once again.

“We were wasteful. We dominated the game like we have done in all our PSL matches, but I think we’ve got this curse of not being able to put the ball in the back of the net. ”There have been reports of Swallows struggling to pay salaries to their squad and disgruntled players boycotting training. Swallows will travel to Kaizer Chiefs for their final game of the season where even a victory might not guarantee their safety.
“I am really excited to be back here and having been here as a player, assistant coach and head coach, ” Davids was quoted in the club statement. “I understand the club quite well and it will make it easy for my technical team and players to hit the ground running. ”Meanwhile, club chairman Farouk Kadodia is optimistic that Davids will save them from facing the chop having enjoyed success in the past. “Fadlu is one of the youngest coaches in the game and we are pleased to have been able to bring him back to the club, ” Kadodia said.

"We dominated possession and made a lot of box entries and looked like a threat but still we didn't get the result we wanted, but eventually the tide will turn in our favour. ”The round opens on Friday evening with Swallows welcoming AmaZulu to Dobsonville Stadium, while Saturday’s afternoon clashes see Sekhukhune United looking to upset champions Mamelodi Sundowns in Polokwane, while Golden Arrows will chase a first win when they take on TS Galaxy at Princess Magogo Stadium. Saturday’s night action features Maritzburg United tackling Chippa United at Harry Gwala Stadium, and an intriguing clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Richards Bay at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The Amakhosi have suffered two defeats in their opening three matches and will be under pressure to put away the Natal Rich Boyz, but the newly-promoted club have made a strong start to life in the top flight (seven points from a possible nine) and will fancy their chances against the Soweto giants. “I think playing Chiefs at any point is a team that we must respect. They are one of the biggest teams in the country and in Africa, ” Bay coach Pitso Dladla said of the upcoming clash. “It makes things worse now to play against them while they have lost the game [against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend]. I don’t think they will want to lose against us, especially being the new kids on the block. “But we are also so fortunate that they brought the game to Durban and maybe this can work on our side, but in terms of being worried that they lost the game, we are not even considering that.

Returning Davids vows to rescue Maritzburg UnitedMaritzburg United new coach Fadlu Davids has vowed to hit the ground running when the DStv Premiership resumes in December. Davids rejoined the club yesterday after the departure of John Maduka last month following a string of poor results that saw the club drop to the bottom of the table with just 11 points from 13 matches. Davids was in charge of the club as head coach between March 2017 and December 2018 and led the Team of Choice to the highest position ever in the Premiership when they finished in fourth place in the 2017/18 season. He also reached the Nedbank Cup final where they lost to Free State Stars. The coach believes having been at the club before will help him succeed in his return.
We are giving them the respect they deserve and at the same time, we believe we will do our best on the day. ”Sunday features Royal AM hosting Marumo Gallants at Chatsworth Stadium, and the round closes out with SuperSport United taking on Orlando Pirates at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Matsatsantsa are chasing a first win of the season, though coach Gavin Hunt reckons his team would be a lot better off if they could only sharpen up in attack.
