Then came a crucial moment when a long throw from Haverfordwest’s left wing found the head of Jenkins, and he back flicked the ball over Webb’s head to double the lead. Jordan Davies then surged through and smashed the ball against the crossbar to keep Aber in it, and then in the 38th minute the Seasiders halved the lead. After a corner the ball feel to the industrious Iwan Lewis, and his low volley was touched in by Bradford, who scored at the Bridge Meadow for the second season running.

When were you happiest? When Big Dog Becs [Rebecca Mathias] finally passed me the ball to feet, 18/12/2022. What is your greatest fear? Big Dog Becs. Name your two favourite-ever footballers (one male, one female). Frank Lampard and Fara Williams. Which living person do you most admire, and why? My partner Row, her strength at the moment is unreal.
Long throws and corners from both sides were repelled, then came a crucial moment when another Davies flick on was again converted by Evans – only for the linesman to disallow the goal for a foul. Mills Evans had a low shot blocked on the line, and he then sneaked in at the far post to touch home Matty Jones’ corner.
The goals of Aaron Williams and Louis Robles have been a key factor in their ascent up the table, with Williams bagging 5 goals since the start of November to take his seasons total to 12, whilst Robles has hit 4 to take his total to 8. As always in this fixture, there will be familiar faces on both sides. Jack Thorn, Sam Litchfield, Niall Flint and Sam Phillips have all spent time at Latham Park during Chris Hughes’ reign whilst current Robins’ Captain Craig Williams spent two years at Park Avenue under Alan Morgan from 2010 to 2012 and Mathew Jones spent five years with his hometown club before making the move to Newtown in the summer.
Steff Davies then had a shot blocked, Horwood had another free kick gathered by Idzi and the teams went in at 2-1. Jordan Davies lobbed over a few seconds into the second half, then Arnison did the same after good work from Niall Flint. Lewis then sent a volley wide, and more promising crosses came from Phillips and Jonathan Evans, with Aber passing the ball around nicely and looking good for an equaliser.

Jonathan Evans gave Aber the lead on 27 minutes but Kieran Mills Evans then struck twice before half time (29 and 43 minutes) and despite the Seasiders’ best efforts that scoreline stuck until the end.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? When Big Dog Becs finally passes the ball to my feet and it bounces off my shin. Where would you like to live? Anywhere as long as I’m near family and friends! What makes you unhappy? Seeing loved ones suffer. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? Corners (Kel Tom still doesn’t know what it means). Cat or dog? Big Dog Becs. To whom would you most like to say sorry? Gav. For him thinking he’d signed a worldie instead of an average gal with calf problems and top speed of 4mph.
Who is your best friend in football? Couldn’t possibly choose between teammates, but it has to be said Siani [Sian Evans] gives the best hugs! If you could go back in time, where would you go? Uni days. Where would you most like to be right now? Walking on the beach with Row. That will be a good day! Despite a rather scrappy start to the game chances were on the way. Newtown’s Callum Roberts sent in a testing cross which just evaded Louis Robles, before Nick Rushton had a shot blacked and saved soon after. Jack Rimmer for Aber then had a goalbound header saved before Niall Flint’s promising ball in just evaded Evans. Harri Horwood had an attempt blocked for a corner, then Louis Bradford went close so it was no great surprise when Aber took the lead, Steff Davies beating Shane Sutton to flick the ball on, and Evans nipped in at the far post to touch the ball home before celebrating in front of a joyous Nark’s corner! Sadly the joy did not last long and in their next move Newtown equalised when Mills Evans back headed Ryan Sears’ long throw in from half a yard.
Sam Litchfield and Louis Bradford were looking strong at the back when Haverfordwest counter attacked, and Webb punched clear a cross from Wilson. Alex Darlington came on to try and unlock the County defence and had a shot blocked after some trickery almost immediately. Jack Thorn then picked out Darlington at the back post, and his low shot somehow contrived to stay out by rebounding off Lee Idzi for an agonising let off for County. Lewis had a chip into the box caught by Idzi, as Aber pressed again, but the hosts were threatening too as sub Elliott Dugan again tested Webb’s hands in a break through. Then with just five minutes to go and the game hanging in the balance, Jordan Davies found space down the right wing to cross for Fawcett to tap home a third, and the contest was settled.
Jack Thorn got Nark’s corner singing when he sent a volley over the bar from Horwood, but more and more long throws and corners from Sears and Jones kept Aber pinned back. Owen turned his man down the left and sent in a super cross, but Sam Litchfield’s goalbound header was blocked a home defender, and a Niall Flint from the other side was caught by Dave Jones.

The crowd was the second highest of all JD Cymru Premier matches over Christmas, and takes the Park Avenue’s season total to 2996, or an average of 333 over the nine matches played to date. Aber’s loyal fans were possibly attracted by Aber’s best home run in eight years of five consecutive JD Cymru Premier Park Avenue wins since September. That run sadly came to an end on Monday, however Town have two more home matches forthcoming before the mid season split, on Tuesday 10th January against Penybont (KO 8pm) and on Saturday 21st January versus Caernarfon Town (KO 5. 15pm), and Aberystwyth Town FC is grateful for the continued support of Ceredigion’s soccerati.
Louis Bradford tapped home a response eight minutes before the break, and Aber pressed hard in the second half for an equaliser only for Ben Fawcett to settle matters with five minutes to go. With Aber facing their second away match in three days, Steff Davies, Harri Horwood and Harry Arnison returned to the starting eleven, and after an even start with Jenkins going close, Jack Wilson crossed for Davies to tap home at the back post, and County were ahead. An entertaining match prevailed with Horwood’s dangerous cross caught by Lee Idzi in the home goal, and Sam Phillips seeing abgoalbound free kick saved by Idzi. Jamie Veale, Ioan Evans and Jordan Davies saw shots saved by Lewis Webb in Aber’s goal, and then Steff Davies fired over from a narrow angle in response.
