He raced to celebrate with Coleman. Harvey Rodgers fired a low hard shot which Trafford scrambled into his arms while Bolton were struggling to test Toby Savin, both Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Lloyd Isgrove unable to find the target. Savin’s first real action was to keep out a Kyle Dempsey free kick in the 34th minute and, just before end of the half, Dempsey’s strike was kept out by the Stanley keeper with Mitch Clark taking the ball off the feet of Charles as he looked like he would fire into the empty net. At the start of the second half, Whalley forced a save out of Trafford who pushed the ball out and Sean McConville just couldn’t make contact with the rebound. The Reds went 2-0 up on 48 minutes when a Doug Tharme long throw found Ethan Hamilton who lept with George Johnston and the ball ended into the top corner of the net.
Fleetwood Town vs Accrington Stanley on 29 Oct 22 - Match CentreFleetwood scored three goals in nine minutes as Accrington Stanley lost their fifth successive League One game. The teams couldn’t be separated in the first half as Stanley had chances but couldn’t find their way past one of the best defensive records in the league. Luton loanee Carlos Mendes Gomes then took charge after the break as Fleetwood chalked up only their second win at Highbury of the League One campaign. Liam Coyle and Doug Tharme were suspended with Seamus Conneely returning after a ban and Baba Fernandes slotting in the defence. It was a lively start with Fleetwood on the front foot but Ethan Hamilton came close on six minutes with a long range effort which was narrowly wide.

On the next attack, on 58 minutes, Clark played the ball back to Coyle in the area and he stroked the ball into the far corner of the net to give the Reds the lead – his first goal of the season. Stanley pressed for a second and Leigh flashed a chance wide but Stanley lost defender Tharme to injury on 73 minutes. Morecambe equalised on 77 minutes when a Ripley free kick over the top, bounced once and was lifted over Lukas Jensen by Ryan Astley, under pressure from Morecambe substitute Cole Stockton. Stanley restored their lead on 81 minutes after a foul on Shaun Whalley gave the Reds a free kick on the edge of the area and Hamilton fired his effort low and hard into the far corner of the net. It was Hamilton’s first goal since February.

The Reds were unable to clear their lines on the edge of the area on 50 minutes and Morton fed Mendes Gomes who lashed home his fourth goal of the campaign. Stanley could have equalised immediately but no one could get on the end of Leigh’s ball across the face of goal. It was two on 54 minutes when Mendes Gomes made space in the area, chipped the ball to the far post and Shaun Rooney raced in to fire past Savin. A minute later Lynch kept out Leigh’s downward header and then Morton rifled the ball over at the other end as Fleetwood looked for a third. By 59 minutes it was 3-0 when a Mendes Gomes corner was headed home off the post by Josh Earl.

A minute later, Callum Morton broke clean through with keeper Toby Savin denying him and, from the follow-up, Mendes Gomes blazed over the bar. It was end-to-end but then the Reds enjoyed a spell of pressure. Tommy Leigh’s looping header went onto the roof of the net, Leigh’s cross was across the face of goal and just needed a touch while Ryan Astley had two chances – one denied by keeper Joe Lynch and the other over the top. Joe Pritchard was inches away from giving Shaun Whalley a tap in while, at the other end, Morton fired low which Savin collected while Dan Batty’s scuffed effort was off-target. Stanley started the second half strongly but then came the crazy nine minutes.
Accrington Stanley vs Morecambe on 01 Oct 22 - Match CentreAccrington Stanley left it late to earn the bragging rights in their Lancashire derby with ten-man Morecambe. Liam Coyle gave Stanley the lead in the second half after Arthur Gnahoua had been sent off for the Shrimps at the end of the first half. An own goal pulled Morecambe level on 77 minutes before Ethan Hamilton and Tommy Leigh scored goals in the final ten minutes to give the Reds their third successive League One win. The game started off at a frantic pace with former Red loan defender Farrand Rawson heading over in the early stages for Morecambe while Doug Tharme headed into the arms of keeper Connor Ripley, another former Stanley player. Stanley’s Mitch Clark and Hamilton played dangerous balls across the box while a Sean McConville effort was off-target.

On 24 minutes, Stanley came close when a header from Harvey Rodgers was chested off the line by Rawson. Morecambe’s Jake Taylor fired across the goal and narrowly wide while a Tharme throw-in caused chaos in the Shrimps area but no one could capitalise. The Shrimps were reduced to ten men in first half injury time when frontman Gnahoua caught Clark in the centre circle and referee James Oldham judged it a red card. Stanley tried to make use of their numerical advantage early on in the second half with Clark firing just wide after good build-up play from the Reds. Clark played a blistering ball in which neither Leigh or Coyle could connect with and McConville lashed an effort against the inside of the post.
Ex-Reds Dion Charles and James Trafford were in the Bolton starting XI and Man City loan keeper Trafford was in action immediately, on three minutes. A goalkick was charged down by former Wanderer Joe Pritchard and the goalie had to rush back to punch the high ball and stop it going in the net. Stanley opened the scoring on eight minutes when Pritchard clipped the ball forward, charged after it and played in a cross to the waiting Whalley who fired past Trafford for his first Stanley goal since his return to the club.
Ryan Hardie's 62nd-minute introduction made all the difference to the Argyle attack. Striker Ennis got the 70th-minute opener, cleverly clipping the ball home at the near post from Hardie's pacey cross from the left. The Scottish ace came within a whisker of making it 2-0 with 13 minutes remaining but his deft touch to beat Morecambe keeper Ripley, from Cosgrove's first-time cross, skipped past the far post.

The goal was credited to a Bolton own goal although Hamilton said he had the last touch. Hamilton had a header cleared off the line by Ricardo Santos a minute later while, at the other end, Bodvarsson headed off-target. Bolton got back in it on 56 minutes when a free kick was headed back across the goal by Johnston and it hit Harvey Rodgers and bounced into the net. Savin then did superbly to keep out a strike from Oladapo Afolayan, the follow-up from Kieran Lee and then Johnston’s goalbound effort from the resulting corner. However he could do nothing about the equaliser on 71 minutes when sub Elias Kachunga clipped the ball across the goal and Lee was there at the far post to tap into the empty net.
